Applications of Tea Tree Oil for Clinical Dandruff

Applications of Tea Tree Oil for Clinical Dandruff

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a superficial fungal disease of the skin, occurring in areas rich in sebaceous glands, with Dandruff considered a mild form of the disease. It is thought that an association exists between Malassezia yeasts and SD.

Dandruff is a skin disorder characterized by flaky skin on the scalp and is prevalent in almost 50% of the global population. It is linked with proliferation of lipophilic yeasts of the genus Malassezia (particularly M. globosa and M. restricta).

Studies demonstrate that pure Australian Tee Tree Oil, Melaleuca alternifolia, (TTO) may be of benefit in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.
