Medicinal Applications of Tea Tree Oil

Medicinal Applications of Tea Tree Oil

Tea Tree Oil (TTO) is the steam distilled essential oil of Melaleuca alternifolia (Myrtaceae) native to the East Coast of Australia. There are a number of other Myrtaceae family plants ambiguously called “tea tree” or Melaleuca, however the ISO 4730:2017 standard specifies the chemical composition as found in the terpinene-4-ol chemotype of Melaleuca alternifolia. Tea Tree Oil complying with ISO 4730 is considered to be of a medicinal grade by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
