OVERVIEW

Australia is the home of the entire Eucalyptus genus – all Eucalypts around the world have emanated from Australia in the last century. Eucalyptus Oil was first exported to the world from Australia in 1789.

The Eucalyptus kochii species is particularly suited to essential oil production for its high concentration of 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol); its coppiced regrowth lends well to mechanical harvesting techniques.

Commercial scale plantings of Eucalyptus kochii commenced by farmers in Western Australia in the 1990's, where millions of Kochii trees were planted in an intercropping format within their wheat fields to counter salinity issues in the soil. These plantings now provide a rich, substantial, and sustainable source of Eucalyptus Kochii Oil for export.

Eucalyptus Oil is a popular remedy for respiratory conditions and can be found in many over-the-counter sinus and cough products. Extensive research has been conducted on its active constituent 1,8 cineole (Eucalyptol), documenting its antiviral and antibacterial properties.

An area of significant focus for researchers of Eucalyptus Oil has been in respiratory health with substantial evidence supporting the use of 1,8 cineole for sinus and respiratory conditions, including asthma, cough, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and influenza.
